Money can be such an uncomfortable subject. For some, it brings feelings of lack. For some, it brings feelings of guilt. Some people feel indifferent. How you feel about your money determines how much money you have. If you don't like how you feel about money, uncover your money beliefs and change them.

Uncovering your money beliefs takes a lot of thought downloads. Unfiltered and unedited thought downloads. This can be difficult, especially if we don't like how we are currently thinking about money. But, if we put a bandaid on our current money beliefs, we'll never get to the heart of the problem. We won't be able to make lasting change if we don't change our current beliefs.

There are three parts:

  1. uncover your current money beliefs
  2. decide how you want to feel about money
  3. practice your new money beliefs

uncover your current money beliefs

Remember that when we do thought work, a belief is a thought we keep on thinking. This is something I learned from Brooke Castillo. If you think a thought over and over and over and over, pretty soon you don't realize you are thinking a thought. You believe it's as good as done. That's the way it is.

You uncover your current beliefs by doing thought downloads about money. First, think about your past. What did people say about money when you were growing up? Think about your largest purchases. How did you feel about them?

Then, think about now. How do you feel about the money you spend and save? How do you feel about the money you earn? How do you feel about debt? About traveling? About work?

Next, think about your future. What are your thoughts about retirement? Do you want to leave a legacy? Do you plan on making large purchases like a house or a car?

As you do these thought downloads, your money beliefs will show up. For me, what comes up again and again is that there's not enough. I have a feeling of lack so much around money. I want to change this. I want to feel more abundant.

how do you want to feel about money

I think most of us know how we want to feel about money. But, as you go through this exercise, take the time to really understand how you want to feel about money.

This means spending time with your thought downloads about money. This means having compassion for yourself. It means understanding why you have those current money beliefs. And then, when you are ready to create new beliefs, you can create them from a place of abundance.

If, like me, you feel a lack of money, think about what there is enough money for. If you have expenses that are no longer needed, stop paying for them. Spend your money on what you do have enough for.

Choose a new money affirmation, but make it one that you believe. And then keep thinking it over and over and over, until it becomes a new belief. Remember that money is neutral. It is your thought about money that is causing you to take action that is giving you your result.

Practice your new money beliefs

Now, I don't think that just thinking new money beliefs is going to bring money to your bank account. You have to take action. But, if our thoughts create our feelings which drive our actions, thinking a new money belief is a great place to start.

Think about what it feels like to have money. Would you rather have a $100 or spend $100? Most of us would rather have a hundred dollars, but what happens is that most of us also end up spending it. We need to practice having money before we spend it.

Having money is not necessarily saving money or hoarding money. Having money is being present with your money before you spend it. Receive your money before you spend it. Instead of thinking about how much you make in a month and wondering where the money went, spend time with your money consciously. Spend it on paper first. Know what you have and where it's going.

It's also important to separate your feelings from money. Remember, money is neutral. If you think that life will be better when you make $100k, think again. Money can certainly solve a lot of problems, but it's not going to solve any emotional problems.

If we think we will be happier or life will be better when we get 'that thing', and then we get that thing and we're still not happy, we think we need more. Or we blame something else. Happiness comes from within. So does wealth.

Wealth is an ability. Money is neutral. Money is an exchange of value. Wealth is something you create within yourself. It's such a beautiful thing because you have the ability to create wealth. Wealth is something you are, not because of how much money you have, but because you have the ability to create wealth.

I'm going to leave you with a few money affirmations. But, before you go off chanting these to yourself, really take the time to uncover your beliefs about money. Remember, if you put a bandaid on it, someday that bandaid is going to come off, and those beliefs will still be there. Believe in your ability to make money.

I love money.

I have plenty of money.

I love having money.

I can create money.

I am good at creating value.

I've done it before, I can do it again.

I have the ability to create wealth.

I am wealthy.

Money is easy.

Money is not a problem.

Money is never the problem.

I am figuring this out.

Money is good.
