Plan Your Time

Plan your time. Are you ready for this? We’ve talked about what takes up your time, making decisions, and time drama. Today we are going to talk about how to make time.

One way to make time is to use your time to create the life you want. This is what I’ve learned from Brooke Castillo. She taught me to think about time in a different way. To think about the life I want to be living, about how I want to spend my time, and what I want to create with my life.

And then she taught me to simplify it and to create time by living my life to my highest standards.

This is something you have to think about. What kind of a life do you want to be living?

I want to wake up and have my morning yoga and my quiet cup of coffee with my journal before anyone else is awake. I want to be the mom who wants to be a mom. I want to enjoy meal times with family and I want cleaning and cooking to feel easy. I want weekly date nights with my spouse. I want, I want, I want.

As you start thinking about the life you want to be living, pay attention to your feelings. It’s easy to feel apathetic. Maybe the life you really want feels so far from what’s actually happening.

I’m going to tell you that you still need to think about what kind of life you want.

If you don’t start heading to where you eventually want to be, you will never get there. You have to start, no matter how impossible it feels.

I thought about the life I want to be living, how I want to spend my time, and what I want to create. I simplified it to one sentence: I want to be an example of what’s possible for a mom.

When I think about being an example of what’s possible for a mom, I think about the life I really want to be living. Give yourself time to think about this for yourself, and then simplify it to one sentence.

What this does is it give you guidelines for how you want to show up for your life. So much of time management depends on your planning and how you spend your time. When you plan your days you need to make sure you are honoring the way you want to spend your time.

As you plan, consider what you value.

When you know how you want your life to be and you know what you value, you can spend your time doing those things and you will start having time.

Here are a few things I value that I have in my life:

  • down time where I do nothing but think

  • quiet mornings

  • plenty of sleep

  • good coffee

  • a clean house

  • date night

  • being on time

  • journaling

I want you to think about this for yourself.

What do you really want to spend your time doing? What do you really want your life to be about? You have the power to create the life you want. We all have 24 hours in a day. How are you going to spend yours?
